Did You Know?

Tombstone Coins

Did you know when coins are left on a Veteran’s headstone, or at the grave site, they have meaning. It is actually a message left for the family to see. That way the visitor instead of calling the family on the telephone or visiting them personally can show their respect by leaving a coin. Different coins have different meanings, for instance… Leaving a penny at the grave means, you visited. A nickel on the other hand means you and the deceased trained at boot camp together, a dime means you served with him in some capacity. Now, leaving a quarter means, you are telling the family that you were with the solider when he was killed.

Well isn’t that nice to know…..

Learn how to save money and stop suffering the winter blues early in the morning, check below after reading about Abe Lincoln…..

Lincoln’s Road To The White House

Failed in business in 1831
Defeated for Legislature in 1832
Second failure in business in 1833
Suffers nervous breakdown in 1836

These were not actually failures, they were experiences that prepared him, inspired him to work even harder to succeed. They served to push him to do better each time and it came to the point where he was the leader of the pact so-to-speak.

Food:
The internet state we must blanch our corn prior to freezing. Not so, we can freeze our corn in the husk and it tastes beautiful when thawed and cooked. I was reminded today that we did not always have the internet and had to experiment and think for ourselves…dang right…

A space savor would be to remove the kernels, after blanching, it’s easier then and store in containers, so the choice is yours. Same with carrots, you do not need to blanch, you can freeze from fresh. Makes sense after all, we buy frozen veggies. Zip lock bags are fabulous for storing. They are thicker than regular baggies.

Worried about your potatoes going bad parboil them and cut in slices or chips, your choice and store in freezer until needed. No need to have to throw anything away.

Baking Banana Bread and when I learned this one, I thought “yuck” until I listened and baked a few loaves. Let your banana go as black as possible and squeeze it out of the skin, ohhh mama, that will gain you an A in banana bread baking. After my very first few loaves, my friends told me, wow, you can really taste the banana and I became known for baking great banana loaves. So beginning my 30 loaves tonight.

Did you know that a lot of Torontonians freeze milk, it’s true. They still purchase milk in the plastic bag and freeze. I have a major problem with that however, what about all those chemicals released from the plastic. Ummm not something I want to do.

Did you know that 2 tablespoons of coconut oil per day can get rid of belly fat. The worst fat on the body is belly fat, known for heart attacks and strokes etc. So a continuous use of coconut oil per day will help in that regard. That doesn’t mean the more coconut oil the more fat you lose, so no cups of fat please.

I’ve been using vaseline and olive oil on my face for years, and twice a week I use a mask. My sweetie from Scotland mailed me a great mask called orogold. Yeah and O my gosh who can afford it, it will be a treat for me. I have a mask that’s just as good and can actually roll out lines and wrinkles over a short period of time. Will talk about that later.

CLEANING YOUR OVEN – The easiest way EVER!

Begin by preheating the oven to 150 degrees (or your lowest setting available). While the oven is heating, put on a pot of water to boil. Once the oven has reached 150, turn it off and pour 1 cup of ammonia into a heat safe bowl or baking dish and place it on the top rack of the oven. Place the pot of boiling water on the bottom rack, close the oven door, and leave them both in the oven overnight.

The next morning, open the oven and remove both the bowl of ammonia and the pot of water, keep the ammonia – you’ll use it later. Remove the racks and leave the oven door open to air out for 15 minutes. Add 1-2 teaspoons of dishwashing liquid to the ammonia, along with 4 cups of warm water, and using a heavy-duty nylon scrubbing pad dipped in the ammonia mixture, begin to wipe away the softened grease and grime along the sides and bottom of the oven.

It should be a fairly easy job at this point. Wear some kitchen gloves, since ammonia can be caustic to skin. Rinse/wipe clean with a damp cloth.
